Northwest Africa 14061 (NWA 14061) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Mar Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Light-grayish rock almost completely covered by fusion crust. Petrography: Monomict breccia composed of up to 1 mm sized orthopyroxene crystals in related fine-grained clastic matrix. Contains myrmekitic intergrowth of silica and chromite. Minor phases include troilite, chromite, and silica. No feldspar has been found in the section studied. The meteorite is highly shocked and contains shock melt pockets. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs24.8±0.2Wo3.2±0.5 (Fs24.3-25.2Wo2.2-3.8, FeO/MnO=23-30, n=12) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
