Northwest Africa 14062 (NWA 14062) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Feb Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Grayish rock partly covered by fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a light-greenish interior and is composed of sparse well separated chondrules (mean apparent diameter about 750 µm) set in abundant recrystallized matrix dominated by Ni-bearing ferroan olivine. More minor phases are intermediate plagioclase, low-Ca pyroxene, Ca-pyroxene, and troilite. Contains abundant Cr-bearing magnetite. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa30.5±0.2 (Fa30.2-30.8, FeO/MnO=109±7; NiO=0.48±0.04 wt%, n=12); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs25.8±1.1Wo1.3±1.0 (Fs24.6-28.9Wo0.5-3.6, n=10); Ca-pyroxene: Fs9.6±1.6Wo44.6±4.7 (Fs8.7-14.3Wo30.9-47.2, n=11); feldspar: An34.9-64.2Ab35.0-62.7Or0.8-2.9, n=10; magnetite contains 5.1±0.5 wt% Cr2O3, n=8 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
