Northwest Africa 14125 (NWA 14125) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jun Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Mauritania. Physical characteristics: Many dark grayish fragments some of which partly to almost completely covered with fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite is a monomict basaltic breccia composed of coarse- and more fine-grained regions. Grain sizes are about 400 µm in the coarse-grained and about 70 µm in the fine-grained areas. Main minerals in both regions are exsolved pyroxene and often lath-shaped calcic plagioclase. Minor phases include silica, chromite, FeS, and ilmenite. No metallic iron has been detected. The meteorite contains some shock melt veins. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs65.4±0.3Wo2.1±0.4 (Fs65.1-65.8Wo1.8-2.9, FeO/MnO=28-29, n=5); Ca-pyroxene: Fs28.8±1.4Wo43.9±1.5 (Fs27.3-31.2Wo41.4-45.5, FeO/MnO=26-29, n=5); calcic plagioclase: An83.0±1.0 (An81.7-84.1, n=5) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
