Northwest Africa 14152 (NWA 14152)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: July, 2021

History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Light-grayish fragments partly covered with fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is a monomict brecciated basalt composed of more fine-grained (grain size about 100 µm) and more coarse-grained (grain size about 600 µm) lithologies. Dominant mineral phases are exsolved pyroxene and calcic plagioclase. Minor phases include silica, Ti-bearing chromite, ilmenite, and metallic iron. The meteorite contains some ferroan olivine.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene host crystals to augite exsolutions: Fs68.9±0.1Wo1.8±0.1 (Fs68.8-69.2Wo1.7-2.1, FeO/MnO=27-30, n=7); augite exsolutions: Fs31.1±0.2Wo44.0±0.2 (Fs30.9-31.4Wo43.7-44.3, FeO/MnO=28-32, n=7); olivine: Fa84.6±0.3 (Fa84.0-84.9, FeO/MnO=38±1, n=7); calcic plagioclase: An90.0±0.5 (An89.2-90.8, n=7)
