Northwest Africa 14128 (NWA 14128) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 May Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in May, 2021. Physical characteristics: Dark-grayish rock partly covered with fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a fresh grayish interior and is composed of sparse, separated, and still clearly defined chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 750 µm) set in abundant recrystallized matrix. The dominating mineral phase is ferroan Ni-bearing olivine. Minor phases are intermediate plagioclase, low-Ca pyroxene, Ca-pyroxene, troilite, and pentlandite. Cr-rich magnetite is abundant; no metal was found in the section studied. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa31.5±0.1 (Fa31.3-31.6, FeO/MnO=111±12; NiO=0.52±0.03 wt%, n=6); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs26.3±0.2Wo1.6±1.2 (Fs26.0-26.5Wo0.9-3.7, n=4); Ca-pyroxene: Fs10.0±1.0Wo46.9±1.1 (Fs8.9-11.5Wo45.2-48.0, n=4); feldspar: An20.5-77.7Ab22.0-72.6Or0.2-6.9, n=4; magnetite contains 5.6±0.1 wt% Cr2O3, n=4 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
