Northwest Africa 14075 (NWA 14075)

Purchased: 2021 Jan

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-5)

History: Purchased by Eric Twelker in January 2021 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Complex breccia composed of discrete well-formed, unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 570±230 µm, N = 24) and a variety of lithic chondrite clasts (of petrologic types 3, 4 and 5) set in a fine grained matrix (pale orange in thin section) containing accessory pyrrhotite, pentlandite, chromite, ilmenite and sodic plagioclase, plus rare chalcopyrite and Cr-bearing magnetite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa31.4±17.8, range Fa1.8-51.7, N = 8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.0±13.9Wo1.6±0.7, range Fs2.9-31.7Wo0.8-2.6, N = 4), diopside (Fs2.8±1.3Wo40.8±2.9, range Fs1.8-3.7Wo42.8-38.7, N = 2), plagioclase (Ab83.8An11.7Or4.5), magnetite (Cr2O3 1.6 wt.%).

Classification: R3-5 chondrite breccia.

Specimens: 20.5 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. E. Twelker.
