Northwest Africa 14078 (NWA 14078)

Purchased: 2020 Sep

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Acapulcoite)

History: Acquired by Ben Hoefnagels from a Moroccan source in September 2020.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Protogranular aggregate (mean grainsize ~350 µm) of olivine, orthopyroxene, diopside and altered kamacite with accessory low-Ti chromite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa14.0-14.4, FeO/MnO = 20-29, N = 3), orthopyroxene) Fs14.4-13.6Wo2.0-2.7, FeO/MnO = 18-20, N = 3), diopside (Fs5.9-6.1Wo44.2-44.7, FeO/MnO = 12-15, N = 3).

Classification: Acapulcoite.

Specimens: 7.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. B. Hoefnagels.
