Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 14094 (NWA 14094) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Apr Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2) Physical characteristics: Dark crusted stone. Cut face reveals a dark interior with small chondrules set in an abundant dark matrix. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with small chondrules (average apparent diameter 200±90 μm, n=11) set in a abundant fine-grained iron-rich matrix (88 vol% by point counting, n=264). Opaque minerals are sulfides, magnetite and metal. Carbonates are found in the matrix. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa2.3±2.7, Fa PMD 62%, range Fa0.9-8.3. Defocused eletron microprobe analyses of the matrix give analytical totals of 77.6 wt% and FeO 32.3 wt%. Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2). The low analytical totals in the matrix indicate the presence of hydrous phases. The matrix is particularly abundant for a CM chondrite. Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE.
