Northwest Africa 14096 (NWA 14096) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Apr Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) Physical characteristics: Dark brown stone. Cut face reveals a dark-gray interior with large chondrules. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with large chondrules (average apparent diameter 1100±380 μm, n=18) set in an abundant recrystallized matrix. Olivine is the dominant silicate. Abundant magnetite and sulfides decorating chondrule rims. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa33.3±0.2, NiO 0.58±0.03 wt% (n=3). Ca-pyroxene Fs8.9>o47.3. Plagioclase An87.4Ab12.3Or0.3 (n=1). Magnetite Cr2O3 content 4.35 wt%. Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5). Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
