Northwest Africa 14195 (NWA 14195)

Purchased: 2020

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, polymict)

History: The meteorite was reportedly found in 2018, south of Zagora and finally purchased by the main mass holder from a local meteorite dealer in 2020, in Zagora, Morocco

Physical characteristics: Two grayish rocks almost completly covered by fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite displays a fresh light grayish interior and is a fragmental breccia composed of lithic and mineral clasts set in a fine-grained clastic matrix. Lithic clasts include up to 4 mm sized gabbroic, ophitic, granular, and black impact melt clasts fragments. Dominant mineral phases are up to 1.5 mm sized exsolved pyroxene, compositionally homogeneous low-Ca pyroxene, and calcic plagioclase grains. Minor phases include silica, chromite, ilmenite, and troilite. No metallic iron was detected. The meteorite contains shock melt veins.

Geochemistry: large low-Ca-pyroxene: Fs36.0±0.3Wo2.5±0.2 (Fs35.6-36.5Wo2.2-2.7, FeO/MnO=31-32, n=5); low-Ca pyroxene host to augite exsolution lamellae: Fs55.3±1.1Wo6.1±1.0 (Fs53.9-57.1Wo4.4-7.6, FeO/MnO=32-33, n=5); Ca-pyroxene exsolution lamellae: Fs33.4±1.8Wo34.2±2.2 (Fs31.2-35.3Wo31.6-37.3, FeO/MnO=30-32, n=5); calcic plagioclase: An94.1±0.3 (An93.8-94.5, n=5)
