Northwest Africa 14194 (NWA 14194) Morocco Purchased: 2019 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: Purchased by Jay Piatek from a Moroccan meteorite dealer in 2019. Physical characteristics: Polished slice of the deposit sample shows a fragmental breccia with cm-sized light-colored clasts set in dark-shock-melt matrix with many smaller light-colored clasts. Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) This a monomict breccia with pyroxene compositions typical of basaltic eucrites. Plagioclase makes up approximately 35% of this meteorite. Troilite, silica, ilmenite, and chromite were detected as accessory phases. Geochemistry: (A. Ross, UNM) Low-Ca pyroxene Fs60.3±2.3Wo4.1±1.9, Fe/Mn=32±2, n=7; high-Ca pyroxene Fs26.7±0.4Wo26.7±0.4, Fe/Mn=31±1, n=6; plagioclase An89.5±1.1, n=6. Classification: Monomict Eucrite Specimens: 20.19 g on deposit at UNM, Jay Piatek holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
