Northwest Africa 14209 (NWA 14209) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: December 2020 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated) History: Nine stones totaling 399 g were purchased in December 2020 by Miguel Angel Contreras Gomez from a meteorite dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: The stones display a distinctive brown fusion crust and grey interior when cut. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) This sample is a breccia composed primarily of sub-angular to sub-rounded basaltic and cumulate eucrite clasts (up to 1 cm) set within a fine-grained matrix containing accessory ilmenite, Fe-Ni metal, and SiO2-rich glass. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene (Fs55.1±2.2Wo3.8±0.8, range Fs51.0-57.5Wo2.6-4.9, Fe/Mn=32±4, n=6), Pigeonite (Fs46.3±3.0Wo14.9±4.1, range Fs40.0-52.4Wo6.4-24.6, Fe/Mn=31±4, n=43), Augite (Fs37.3±1.5Wo28.4±1.5, range Fs36.3-39.1Wo26.6-29.3, Fe/Mn=32±4, n=3), Calcic Plagioclase (An89.3±1.5, range An85.5-92.4, n=33). Classification: HED Achondrite (eucrite, brecciated). Specimens: 21.6 g and a thin section at Cascadia; main mass with Miguel Angel Contreras Gomez. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
