Chug Chug 106 22°29.175’S, 69°10.864’W Antofagasta, Chile Find: 24 Oct 2019 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5) History: The meteorite was found in autumn 2019 by Atali Agakhanov during a meteorite-search expedition organized by Timur Kryachko. Physical characteristics: Total mass is about 333 g. The interior of the meteorite is rusty brown whereas the surface is brown to light brown with visible metal. Petrography: (Kseniya A. Konovalova, FMMR). Petrographic observation of a polished section shows that meteorite consist of inhomogeneous matrix and well-formed chondrules. Chondrules size vary from 400 to 600 μm. PO chondrules include plagioclase grains with sizes up to 50µm. These features indicate a petrological type of 5 for the meteorite. Metal blebs and troilite are partially surrounding by hydroxides and its veins (weathering grade is W1). Olivine has undulatory extinction, indicating a shock stage of S2. Geochemistry: Mineral composition and Geochemistry: EDS analyses (Atali Agakhanov, Kseniya Konovalova, FMMR). The primary chondrite paragenesis includes olivine 19.52±0.43 (N=19), Low-Ca pyroxene Fs17.6±0.4Wo1.48±0.28 (N=21), plagioclase Ab78.27An14.19Or6.13 (N=6). Composition of kamacite (in wt. %): Fe - 94.01, Ni - 6.44, Co - 0.77, taenite (in wt., %) : Fe - 69.68, Ni - 30.68, Co - 0.37 Classification: (Kseniya A. Konovalova, FMMR). Ordinary chondrite. H5, S2, W1. Specimens: Atali A. Agakhanov holds main mass about 0.3 kg. Thin section and 21.62 g, FMMR. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
