Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 14177 (NWA 14177)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021 Mar

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite)

History: A broken mass with heterogeneous distribution of constituent metal was purchased by Rachid Chaoui in March 2021 from a Maritanian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Triple grain junction texture. Composed mainly of forsterite, enstatite and diopside with subordinate sodic plagioclase, fluoroedenitic amphibole and Cl-F-bearing apatite.

Geochemistry: Forsterite (Fa3.7-4.2, FeO/MnO = 23-24, N = 4), enstatite (Fs4.5-5.1Wo1.8-2.0, FeO/MnO = 15-17, N = 4), diopside (Fs1.4-1.9Wo45.1-46.2, FeO/MnO = 9-15, N = 4), plagioclase (Ab74.5-75.7An21.3-22.3Or3.0-3.5, N = 3).

Classification: Winonaite. This specimen is likely paired with NWA 13958, NWA 14014, NWA 14042 and several other recently classified specimens from Northwest Africa based on essentially identical textures, mineralogy and mineral compositions.

Specimens: 25.1 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with Mr. R. Chaoui.
