Northwest Africa 14277 (NWA 14277)

Morocco

Find: 2020

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5)

History: Purchased in 2020 by Alex Folta from Mohamed el Guirah in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Sample displays dark-brown fusion crust. A shock vein is visible and cuts across the interior of the sample.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) This sample is an ordinary chondrite containing secondary recrystallized feldspar (Av. ~ 30 µm) and accessory Fe-Ni metal and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.4±0.4, range Fa23.5-24.9, n=16), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs20.4±0.5 Wo1.9±0.4, range Fs19.7-21.6 Wo1.4-2.6, n=22).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5).

Specimens: 49.8 grams and a thin section at Cascadia; 202.5g main mass with David Martin.
