Northwest Africa 14256 (NWA 14256)

Find: 2017

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, melt breccia)

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Brecciated igneous rock with partially molten subophitic clasts (grain size ~200 µm) set in a melt rock matrix. The melt rock fraction contains abundant 100 µm vacuoles. Main minerals are exsolved pyroxene and plagioclase. Accessory minerals: troilite, ilmenite, chromite, FeNi metal.

Geochemistry: Pyroxene Fs57.5±2.2Wo7.9±3.0, FeO/MnO 30.9±0.2 (n=3). Plagioclase An88.3±1.0Ab11.2±1.0Or0.5±0.2 (n=5).
