Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 14108 (NWA 14108)

Morocco

Purchased: 2019

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, melt breccia)

History: T. Simard purchased the 1244 g sample from a dealer at the Ensisheim Meteorite show.

Physical characteristics: Sample has a dark brown exterior and has an irregular shape. The cut face shows the interior has a brecciated texture composed of dark and light-colored mineral clasts rimmed and crosscut with dark-colored melt.

Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Sample is a complex breccia composed of sparse igneous-textured lithic clasts composed of recrystallized pyroxenes some of which contain relict exsolved cores and plagioclase exhibiting twinned and spherulitic textures. Additional minerals are: Ti-poor chromite, ilmenite, secondary calcite, a Si-polymorph.

Geochemistry: (A. Love, App) Low-Ca pyroxene (Fs61.9Wo4.4, Fe/Mn=28.6, n=1); pigeonite (Fs53.0±4.2Wo12.5±3.0, Fe/Mn=27.5±0.8, n=9); high Ca pyroxene (Fs30.3±4.9Wo42.2±6.2, Fe/Mn=33.4±1.7, n=13); plagioclase (An91.3±0.7Or0.6±0.1, n=8).

Classification: HED achondrite (monomict eucrite melt breccia).

Specimens: Thierry Simard holds the main mass. A polished thin section and a 20.57 g cored section are on deposit at App.
