Northwest Africa 14342 (NWA 14342) Northwest Africa Purchased: 2020 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, cumulate) History: Purchased from a Moroccan meteorite dealer in August 2020. Physical characteristics: Single stone, no fusion crust, saw-cut slices reveal a fine-grained light-gray mosaic surface. A few scattered opaque grains with metallic luster are also visible. Petrography: (A. Ross, C. Agee, UNM) Reflected light microscopy shows adcumulate texture of pyroxene and plagioclase grains. Ubiquitous minor chromite was detected. Geochemistry: (A. Ross, UNM) Pigeonite Fs39.1±1.0Wo7.6±1.9, Fe/Mn=31±1, n=7; plagioclase An92.3±0.8, n=4. Classification: Cumulate eucrite Specimens: 20.1 g on deposit at UNM, Larry Atkins holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
