Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 14270 (NWA 14270) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Classification: Ungrouped achondrite History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in 2020 from a delaer in Erfoud, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Igneous assemblage (devoid of chondrules) consisting of compositionally zoned olivine and pyroxene with interstitial glassy mesostasis. Zoned olivine is mantled by orthopyroxene which is in turn mantled by pigeonite and subcalcic augite. Plagioclase is absent. Accessory phases are troilite, kamacite and taenite. Geochemistry: Olivine (cores Fa16.7-19.7; rims Fa20.4-23.0; FeO/MnO = 45-51, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene cores (Fs22.9-23.0Wo3.8-4.4, FeO/MnO = 30-31, N = 2), pigeonite mantles (Fs21.5Wo5.9; Fs21.5Wo19.6; FeO/MnO = 25-30, N = 2), subcalcic augite rims (Fs28.2-33.7Wo30.8-33.2, FeO/ MnO = 29-32, N = 2). Oxygen isotopes (K. Ziegler, UNM): analysis of acid-washed subsamples by laser fluorination gave, respectively, δ17O 3.762, 3.772, 3.831; δ18O 5.160, 5.188, 5.260; Δ17O 1.038, 1.033, 1.053 per mil (all data linearized). Classification: Achondrite (igneous, ungrouped, with oxygen isotopic affinities to L chondrites). Paired with NWA 13272 and NWA 13351. Specimens: 4.1 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remaind with WangZ. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
