Northwest Africa 14330 (NWA 14330) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 May Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L, melt rock) History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorite hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in May, 2021. Physical characteristics: Dark brownish rock without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a microporphyritic texture, and is composed of about 10 to 100 µm sized subhedral to eudral olivine and pyroxene grains with interstitial mesostasis. Olivine is compositionally equilibrated and sometimes poikilitically enclosed in pyroxene which shows strong compositional zoning. It contains olivine and pyroxene fragments that show mottled zoning and resorption textures. A single relict chondrule was found. Opaque phases are FeNi metal and FeS. Geochemistry: Olivine in relict chondrule: Fa23.2±0.2, n=10; olivine in matrix: Fa24.2±0.5 (Fa23.7-25.1, n=10); pyroxene in relict chondrule: Fs19.6±0.4Wo1.8±0.3, n=10; pyroxene in matrix: Fs16.8±1.8Wo6.9±9.2 (Fs13.1-19.1Wo1.2-29.6, n=14) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
