Northwest Africa 14355 (NWA 14355)

Purchased: 2019 Mar

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: A single stone weighing 13 g was purchased by Antonello Petriccione at the Bologna Mineral Fair in 2019

Physical characteristics: The main mass displays a partial, brown fusion crust.

Petrography: (V. Moggi Cecchi, L. Fabrizi, G.Pratesi, UniFi): The thin section shows an unequilibrated chondritic texture, with chondrules easily distinguishable from the matrix. Various chondrule types (PP poikilitic, PO, RP and BO) are evident, set in a fine grained matrix. Olivine is homogeneous, while orthopyroxene is slightly inhomogeneous. Iron oxides are diffuse, although Fe-Ni alloys and troilite are rare and scattered in the matrix as individual grains;

Geochemistry: EMP (V.Moggi Cecchi, L.Fabrizi, G.Pratesi UniFi); Olivine in both chondrules and matrix (Fa18.9±0.9Fo81.1±0.8; Fe/Mn = 40; n=53); low-Ca pyroxene in both chondrules and matrix (Fs9.3±3.1En89.9±3.3Wo0.8±0.3; Fe/Mn = 26; n=53);

Classification: Ordinary Chondrite (H4); S1; W2;

Specimens: The main mass, weighing 9 g, is owned by Antonello Petriccione; the type specimen, weighing 4 g, and one thin section are on deposit at MSN-FI (Inventory # I-3651).
