Northwest Africa 14458 (NWA 14458)

Purchased: 2018 Dec

Classification: Ureilite

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in December 2018 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Protogranular texture (mean grainsize ~1 mm). Composed predominantly of olivine (~80 vol.%) and pigeonite (~20 vol.%) with accessory graphite, kamacite, taenite and troilite. Olivine grains have reduced, more magnesian rims associated with stained, fine grained Fe metal.

Geochemistry: Olivine (cores Fa19.9-20.3, N = 4; rims Fa1.6-5.2, N = 4), pigeonite (Fs17.5-17.6Wo5.2-5.4, N = 5).

Classification: Ureilite.

Specimens: 44.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
