Northwest Africa 14486 (NWA 14486) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jul Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3) History: Purchased by Shun-Chung Yang in July 2021 from a dealer in Guelmim, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, Brown U.) Fairly closely packed, well-formed chondrules (apparent diameter 1010 ± 470 µm, N = 25) containing devitrified glass are set in a fine grained matrix containing altered kamacite, taenite and chromite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa31.3±27.8, range Fa6.3-91.8, N = 7; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.01-0.25 wt.%, mean 0.07 wt.%, sd 0.10 wt.%, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs12.1±7.9Wo1.8±1.2, range Fs1.8-20.1Wo0.6-3.2, N = 6), pigeonite (Fs19.4Wo6.8), diopside (Fs1.2Wo43.3). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.84. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3). Specimens: 15.0 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C.
