Hutchison Icefield 18028 (HUT 18028) 81°27.11567’S, 26°15.49183’W Antarctica Find: 2019 Jan 17 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H6) History: The meteorite was recovered as part of the Lost Meteorites of Antarctica project. which was funded in the UK by the Leverhulme Trust and supported by the British Antarctic Survey and the University of Manchester. These samples were collected as part of the project’s first field season in austral summer December 2018 - January 2019 by a two person field party consisting of Katherine Joy and Julie Baum. Found on blue ice surface. Altitude 1105 m. Physical characteristics: Mass: 0.84 g. Pieces: 1. Dimensions: 1.5 × 1 × 1 cm. An irregular. part stone with no fusion crust and rusty brown-red exterior. Petrography: Equilibrated texture with some poorly defined relict chondrules (up to 1 mm). Metal and sulfide grains occur as grains up to 0.5 mm throughout. and as small blebs in relict chondrules. Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: All analyses by EPMA. Olivine Fa18.8±0.2 (N=9). Pyroxene Fs16.7±0.1Wo1.5±0.2 (N=12). Plagioclase An12.1±0.1Ab82.3±0.4Or5.6±0.5 (N=2). Classification: H6 Specimens: 0.76 g type specimen (main mass) held at the NHM London. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
