Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 14392 (NWA 14392)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: September, 2021

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4, anomalous)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Guelmim, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Brownish rock without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite shows a chondritic texture with well-defined, partly flattened, and partly packed chondrules (average apparent diameter 304±278 µm, n=26) set in a light brownish matrix with metal and sulfides. Olivine is compositionally equilibrated, low Ca-pyroxene unequilibrated.

Geochemistry: olivine: Fa13.4±0.2 (Fa13.2-13.8, n=10); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs12.6±1.8Wo0.9±0.5 (Fs8.4-15.2Wo0.2-1.6, n=16)

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4-anomalous). The anomalous designation is based on the low Fa content of olivine. Out of 5775 equilibrated H chondrites classified using EDS/WDS techniques, only 4 (less than 1 ‰) have a lower Fa content in olivine (Chug Chug 019 H4-an with Fa10.2, SaU 164 H6 Fa10.2, NWA 1608 H4-6 Fa11.8, and NWA 455 H4 Fa12.5).
