Writeup |
Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 14467 (NWA 14467) Niger Purchased: 2020 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5/6) History: Jean-Benoît de Mascarel purchased from a mineral and artefact dealer six fusion-crusted stones found within two kilometers of one another 60 km from a place called Ahouzigar, itself located 230 km ENE from Agadez. Physical characteristics: Writeup physical: 1111 g ("Mascarel 2"), 519 g ("Mascarel 3"), 1357 g ("Mascarel 4"), 273 g ("Mascarel 5"), 322 g ("Macarel 7"). Petrography (E. Jacquet): Chondrules rarely discernible. Most troilite is fizzed (e.g. Bennett & McSween 1996). Classification: Ordinary chondrite H5/6. A fifth stone, "Mascarel 6" (600 g), found it the same area, but it is much more weathered, and has too low magnetic susceptibility for an H chondrite (log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.44-3.59), so may not be paired with the others Specimens: 273 g at the MNHNP, and the four remaining stones totalling 3329 g with de Mascarel. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
