Northwest Africa 14364 (NWA 14364)

Purchased: 2018 Jun

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in June 2018 from a Morrocan dealer at the Hunan Mineral and Gem Show in Chenzhou City, China.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Protogranular texture (mean grainsize ~1 mm). Unbrecciated aggregate of predominantly orthopyroxene (exhibiting undulose extinction) with accessory augite, silica polymorph, Ti-free chromite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene (Fs27.3-27.9Wo3.2-4.4, FeO/MnO = 26-27, N = 5), augite (Fs9.4-12.9Wo41.1-46.2, FeO/MnO = 18-27, N = 5).

Classification: Diogenite (unbrecciated, protogranular).

Specimens: 48.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
