Northwest Africa 14412 (NWA 14412) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local dealer in Mauritania. Physical characteristics: Dark grayish fragment partly covered fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a grayish to slightly greenish interior and is composed of still clearly defined and well separated chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 800 µm, up to 1.5 mm) set in abundant recrystallized matrix. The dominating mineral phase in chondrules and matrix is ferroan Ni-bearing olivine. Minor phases are intermediate plagioclase, Ca-pyroxene, Cl-apatite, troilite, and pentlandite. Cr-rich magnetite is abundant; no metal was found in the section studied. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa31.4±0.1 (Fa31.2-31.6, FeO/MnO=110±10; NiO=0.41±0.04 wt%, n=7); Ca-pyroxene: Fs9.7±0.4Wo47.6±0.6 (Fs9.1-10.3Wo46.8-48.5, n=7); feldspar: An56.7-61.2Ab37.8-41.9Or1.0-1.5, n=4; magnetite contains 6.1±0.4 wt% Cr2O3, n=3 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
