Northwest Africa 14485 (NWA 14485) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Mar Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite) History: Purchased by Eric Twelker in March 2021 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Microgabbroic texture. Composed predominantly of zoned clinopyroxene and maskelynite with accessory ulvöspinel, ilmenite, pyrrhotite, merrillite, Ti-poor magnetite, silica polymorph and K-Na-bearing glass. Small pockets of multicolored vesicular shock glass (ranging in color within individual pockets from opaque to red-brown to pale tan with fluidal texture) are present. Geochemistry: Pigeonite (Fs31.9-61.2Wo12.4-15.8, FeO/MnO = 29-36, N = 5), subcalcic augite (Fs21.2-23.5Wo34.9031.0, FeO/MnO = 26-30, N = 4), ferroan subcalcic augite (Fs51.1Wo23.8), maskelynite (An44.3-54.6Or2.0-1.2, N = 4). Classification: Shergottite (microgabbroic). Specimens: 20.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Twelker. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
