Northwest Africa 13863 (NWA 13863) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Feb Classification: Ungrouped achondrite History: Purchased by Dengqin Xu from a Moroccan dealer and sold to Ziyao Wang in February 2020. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Igneous cumulate texture. Composed mainly of zoned olivine together with intercumulus pigeonite, subcalcic augite and sodic plagioclase-like glass plus accessory troilite, low-Ti chromite and minor kamacite. Geochemistry: Olivine (cores Fa15.5-17.2, rims Fa20.1-24.8, FeO/MnO = 45-51, N = 8), pigeonite (Fs25.1-29.0Wo6.4-13.8, FeO/MnO = 24-27, N = 4), subcalcic augite (Fs23.8-39.8Wo21.2-28.4, FeO/MnO = 23-31, N = 4), feldspathic glass (approximate composition An63.3Ab21.9Or14.8). Classification: Achondrite (igneous, ultramafic, ungrouped). This specimen is evidently paired with NWA 13446 based on identical textures and mineralogy. Specimens: 25.1 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
