Northwest Africa 14173 (NWA 14173)

Mali

Purchased: 2020 Apr

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4)

History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in April 2020 from a Malian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Closely packed, well-formed equilibrated chondrules are set in a sparse matrix containing altered kamacite, troilite, chromite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.3±0.4, range Fa23.9-25.1, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.5±0.2Wo1.0±0.2, range Fs20.3-20.7Wo0.7-1.1, N = 4).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4).

Specimens: 38 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal.
