Northwest Africa 14556 (NWA 14556)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2020

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5)

History: Acquired in 2020 by D. Sheikh from a meteorite dealer in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Single stone slice containing a dark-brown fusion crust.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Sample is an equilibrated ordinary chondrite containing secondary recrystallized plagioclase (~30 µm) and accessory Fe-Ni metal, troilite and chromite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.3±0.4, range Fa18.6-19.7, n=10), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs17.6±0.5Wo1.2±0.3, range Fs17.2-18.6Wo0.9-1.5, n=10).

Classification: Ordinary Chondrite (H5)
