Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 14528 (NWA 14528)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019 Sep

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

Physical characteristics: One weathered dark stone. Cut surface reveals a dark interior with well-delineated chondrules.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with well-defined chondrules with average apparent diameter 630±320 µm (n=28) set in an iron-rich fine grained matrix (28 vol% by point counting, n=190). Opaque are metal and troilite. No CAIs were observed.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa13.0±10.6, range Fa0.8-32.9 (n=14). Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.09±0.07 wt%. Defocalized matrix analyses FeO = 40.5 wt%, analytical total 98.8 (n=1).

Classification: L3. L group from chondrule size and magnetic susceptibility.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz.
