Northwest Africa 14422 (NWA 14422)

Purchased: 2021 Feb

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in February 2021 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed relatively small chondrules containing devitrified glass are set in a fine grained matrix containing altered kamacite, troilite, chromite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.4±0.2, range Fa18.2-18.7, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.3±0.3Wo1.1±0.1, range Fs15.8-16.6Wo1.0-1.3, N = 8), augite (Fs7.9Wo36.6; Fs5.9Wo43.3; N = 2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4).

Specimens: 25.13 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
