Grove Mountains 130487 (GRV 130487)        72°47’2"S, 75°17’45"E

Antarctica

Find: 2014 Jan 24

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

Petrography: The meteorite shows a chondritic texture. The amount of chondrules and their fragments is up to about 75 vol.%. Their sizes vary from 0.1 mm to 2 mm and they are well delineated. They have barred olivine, porphyritic and radial olivine textures. All petrographic features indicate a petrological type of 3. Combined with the Fa value and the amout of metal/sulfide indicate that this meteorite belongs to L group. Undulatory extinction and irregular fractures in olivine reveal a shock stage of S2.

Specimens: The main mass and one thin section are on deposit at PRIC.
