Northwest Africa 14588 (NWA 14588)

Purchased: 2021 Jun

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5)

History: Purchased by Dr. Ralph Glasser in June 2021 from a Spanish dealer, who had obtained it from a Moroccan source.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Sparse chondrules are present within a recrystallized assemblage containing sodic plagioclase, kamacite, taenite, troilite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.1±0.4, range Fa18.8-19.7, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.6±0.1Wo1.5±0.2, range Fs16.5-16.7Wo1.3-1.8, N = 4), augite (Fs5.8±0.3Wo45.9±0.5, range Fs5.5-6.1Wo46.3-45.3, N = 3), plagioclase (Ab82.8An12.0Or5.2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5).

Specimens: 25.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Dr. R. Glasser.
