Northwest Africa 14447 (NWA 14447) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jul Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4) History: Purchased by Shun-Chung Yang in July 2021 from a dealer in Tindouf, Algeria. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed equilibrated chondrules containing devitrified glass are set in a fine grained matrix containing stained kamacite, troilite, chromite and merrillite. Plagioclase is absent in both the chondrules and the matrix. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa17.4±0.2, range Fa17.0-17.7, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.4±0.7Wo1.2±0.1, range Fs15.4-20.2Wo1.0-1.4, N = 7), augite (Fs4.8Wo46.2). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4). Specimens: 23.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C. Yang. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
