Northwest Africa 14633 (NWA 14633)

Purchased: 2021 Oct

Classification: Ureilite

History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in October, 2021.

Physical characteristics: Dark brownish rock without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite shows a protogranular texture of olivine and pigeonite grains up to 2 mm in size with some 120° triple junctions. Olivine has characteristic reduced Mg-rich rims associated with FeNi-metal or graphite. The meteorite contains flaky graphite and iron oxide veins.

Geochemistry: reduced rims in olivine: Fa1.6-3.0; olivine contains 0.69±0.04 wt% Cr2O3 and 0.36±0.01 wt% CaO; pigeonite contains 1.08±0.04 wt% Cr2O3 and 0.70±0.04 wt% Al2O3
