Northwest Africa 14663 (NWA 14663) Niger Purchased: 2021 Mar Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3) History: Found in Niger and purchased by Mbark Arjdal in March 2020 from a local dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Closely-packed, well-formed, unequilibrated glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 1060±630 µm, N = 25) are set in a fine grained matrix containing stained kamacite, taenite and troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.2±16.0, range Fa1.1-49.7, N = 9; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.04-0.34 wt.%, mean 0.13±0.10 wt.%, N = 8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs9.8±7.8Wo1.6±1.6, range Fs2.7-20.8Wo0.3-3.6, N = 4), pigeonite (Fs34.0Wo7.5; Fs34.7Wo17.4; Fs24.6Wo19.5; N = 3), augite (Fs5.8Wo38.0). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.83. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3). Specimens: 30.8 g including one large area polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M.
