Northwest Africa 14634 (NWA 14634) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated) History: Purchased by Chris Colvin in 2021 by a meteorite dealer in Algeria. Physical characteristics: Single stone with minor fusion crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Sample is a breccia composed of mm-sized sub-rounded clasts (primarily basaltic clasts, mineral grain sizes ~50 μm) set within a finer-grained matrix (grain size ~15 μm) containing accessory ilmenite, troilite, and SiO2-rich glass. Geochemistry: Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs61.7±0.6Wo2.1±0.8, range Fs60.0-62.6Wo1.5-4.8, Fe/Mn=31±4, n=24), Pigeonite (Fs54.3±5.0Wo11.1±5.7, range Fs45.4-59.5Wo5.7-21.8, Fe/Mn=31±4, n=10), Augite (Fs28.7±4.4Wo40.4±5.2, range Fs25.2-36.8Wo31.3-44.3, Fe/Mn=34±5, n=15), Plagioclase (An86.5±8.9Or1.4±1.2, range An74.2-96.4Or0.1-4.1, n=15).
