Writeup from MB 111:
Sazlidere 39°41’34.3"N, 35°41’17.1"E Yozgat, Turkey Find: July 2001 Classification: Iron meteorite (IAB, ungrouped) History: A single stone, weighing about 13.1 kg, was found by Suleyman Selvi and his son in 2001 near Sazlidere in Turkey. They took the rock home and kept it inside for twenty years. In 2021, pictures as well as a piece of the rock were sent to Dr. Mehmet Yesiltas for investigation. Physical characteristics: The meteorite weights approximately 13.1 kg. It has well-developed regmaglypts all over the surface with some rusting. Petrography: Polished and etched surface suggests medium octahedrite with an average kamacite bandwidth of 1.0 ± 0.25 mm. Schreibersite and troilite are present as accessory phases. Schreibersite appears roughly near the center of some kamacites. No other inclusions recognized in the studied section. Minimal-to-moderate weathering is present. Geochemistry: (Dept. of Geology Engineering at Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa) Bulk composition via LA-ICP-MS: Ni = 71.51 mg/g, Co = 3.81 mg/g, Ga = 77.85 µg/g, Ge = 209.26 µg/g, Au = 2.16 µg/g, Cu = 303.76 µg/g, As = 18.67 µg/g, Sb = 750 µg/g, W = 1.42 µg/g. Classification: Iron, IAB-ung. Falls close to the sHL subgroup based on As and Cu; however, Ni and Co are too low and Ge and Ga are too high to be considered part of the sHL group of the IAB complex by Wasson and Kallemeyn (2002). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
