Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 14715 (NWA 14715)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL5)

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Brecciated ordinary chondrite, consisting of dark mm- to cm-sized chondritic clasts, embedded in a yellowish matrix of fine-grained related debris. The clasts show a recrystallized texture with secondary feldspar grains mostly <50 µm. Accessory phases are Fe-Ni metal (completely weathered) and troilite, mostly residing outside of chondrules.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: The mean olivine composition is Fa30.8±0.3 (Fa30.4-31.2; n=11) and the mean low-Ca pyroxene composition is Fs24.8±0.2Wo1.8±0.3 (Fs24.6-25.3Wo1.3-2.2; n=9).

Classification: LL chondrite based on mineral chemistry. Petrologic type 5, based on the equilibrated state of olivine and pyroxene and grain size of secondary plagioclase.
