Northwest Africa 14717 (NWA 14717) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated) Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Unbrecciated granulitic rock, consisting of ~55 vol% pyroxene and ~45 vol% plagioclase. The mean grain size is ~0.7 mm (0.2-1.4 mm). Pyroxene shows augite exsolution lamellae (max. width ~10 µm). Accessories are troilite, Ni-bearing metal, and chromium spinel. Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene (host): Fs42.0±1.4Wo3.8±1.2 (Fs39.8-44.1Wo2.7-5.8); mean Fe/Mn (at.): 27; n=10. Ca-rich pyroxene (exsolution lamellae) Fs23.3±2.5Wo33.5±3.4 (Fs19.7-26.7Wo29.4-38.5); n=8. Plagioclase An94.4±0.7Or0.1±0.1 (An92.9-95.2Or0.0-0.4); n=11.
