Northwest Africa 14779 (NWA 14779)

Purchased: 2021 Jun

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in June 2021 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Sparse chondrules containing either devitriied glass or plagioclase occur in a matrix containing altered kamacite, troilite, chromite, merrillite and plagioclase.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.9±0.2, range Fa18.7-19.1, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.9±0.6Wo1.1±0.1, range Fs16.3-17.8Wo0.9-1.2, N = 5).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5).

Specimens: 22.4 g including one polished thick section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
