Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 14736 (NWA 14736)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021 Mar

Classification: Iron meteorite (IAB-MG)

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Iron meteorite with coarse octahedrite structure. Average kamacite bandwidth 1.8±0.5 mm. Multiple sets of Neumann bands are visible. No silicate inclusions were observed.

Geochemistry: XRF measurement of a polished cut surface gives Ni 7.73 wt% and Co 0.50 wt%. (V. Debaille, ULB) Composition of the metal (ICP-MS) is Co=0.44 wt%, Cr=7.0±0.13, Cu=118.5±1.2, Ga=71.0±2.0, As=9.94±0.26, Mo=6.81±0.05, Pd=4.07±0.03, Ir=2.11±0.10, and Au=1.14±0.06 (all in ppm ± 1 sigma). Ge was not measured.

Classification: Iron (IAB complex, main group). The Au content is slightly lower than for IAB iron meteorites, which is interpreted as an underestimation of Au by the ICP-MS method.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz
