Northwest Africa 14752 (NWA 14752) Morocco Purchased: 2001 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL4-6) History: Sample was purchased in 2001 from Adam Aaronson at the Tucson mineral show who acquired it from Morocco. Sample is catalogued at ROM as M60248. Physical characteristics: A brick sized individual mostly covered in fusion crust, with regmalypted surfaces. Broken surfaces and fusion crust shows mature desert polish and dun brown weathering. Physical properties: Magnetic susceptibility measured for the 21.41 g type specimen is log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.99. Petrography: Cut face (8 cm2) reveals a dun brown-weathered breccia containing dark angular clasts up to 1.5 cm in size, constituting 20 vol% of stone. Metal is sparse, mainly outside of clasts. In polished thin section, chondrules are moderately delineated along with abundant chondrule fragments and individual grains in a fragmental groundmass. Clasts with sharp boundaries and fine grained rims are highly recystallized with barely discernable chondrules. Pyroxene and olivine grains in the groundmass, chondrules and clasts typically show undulatory extinction. Fe oxide staining is pervasive in groundmass but subdued in clasts. Classification: Ordinary chondrite: LL 4-6 (S2) W2. Low metal content and magnetic susceptibility is consistent with a weathered LL chondrite. Stone is a fragmental breccia of LL4 chondritic materail bearing angular LL6 clasts. Specimens: Type specimen location: ROM. Main mass: DGregory. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
