Writeup from MB 111:
Northwest Africa 14766 (NWA 14766) Morocco Purchased: 2021 Apr 8 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-4) Petrography: The rock is composed of an equilibrated clast area and an unequilibrated R chondritic area, and contains ~70 vol% matrix. The mean size of size of chondrules is 423±247 μm, varying from 110 to 1686 ?m (n=130). In the unequilibrated R chondrite area, clearly 0.3-2 mm sized and clearly defined chondrules set into the matrix and mineral fragments. Its mineralogy consist of olivine, pyroxene and Fe,Ni metal and rare sulfides (pyrrhotite and pentlandite). In the equilibrated clast area, the boundary of chondrules is not clear and Fe,Ni metal distribute in the clast randomly. Its mineralogy consist of olivine, pyroxene and Fe,Ni metal and rare oxide. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa1.2-54.4, N=38; Low-Ca pyroxene Fs2.2-40.3Wo0-5.5, N=22; High-Ca pyroxene Fs7.9-29.0Wo10.3-48.6, N=5(EDS) clast: Olivine Fa41.6±0.9, range Fa40.4-43.8, N=15; High-Ca pyroxene Fs10.3-20.9Wo25.2-48.7, N=36; Low-Ca pyroxene Fs29.9-42.5Wo1.3-4.1, N=10 (EDS). FeO-rich olivine contains 0.11-0.21 wt% NiO. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
