Northwest Africa 14856 (NWA 14856) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: January, 2022 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3) History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in January, 2022. Physical characteristics: Almost black rock without fusion crust. Petrography: Breccia composed of up to 5 mm sized type 3 and dark impact melt clast in type 3 lithology. Type 3 lithologies contain well defined mostly rounded chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 400 µm) and mineral fragments in abundant matrix dominated by Fe-rich olivine. More minor phases are Ca-pyroxene, low-Ca pyroxene, and sodic plagioclase. Opaques include troilite, pentlandite, and Ti-bearing chromite; no metal detected. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa25.7±16.0 (Fa0.9-44.9, n=22); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs14.4±8.7Wo1.1±1.4 (Fs2.0-29.1Wo0.1-4.3, n=17); Ca-pyroxene: Fs10.0±0.3Wo45.3±0.6 (Fs9.6-10.7Wo43.9-46.1, n=10) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
