Northwest Africa 14869 (NWA 14869)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2022 Jan

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Talsint, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Many small light brownish fragments some of which with minor fusion crust.

Petrography: Achondritic melt breccia predominantly composed of up to 3 mm sized zoned low Ca-pyroxene plus less abundant magnesian low-Ca pyroxene, olivine, and calcic plagioclase set in recrystalized melt rock matrix dominated by zoned pyroxene and lath-shaped feldspar grains. Minor phases include troilite and Ti-poor chromite. Pyroxene of eucritic composition is absent.

Geochemistry: zoned low-Ca pyroxene: Fs28.2±6.9Wo2.8±0.9 (Fs23.0-39.7Wo2.1-4.3, FeO/MnO=24-30, n=6); magnesian low-Ca pyroxene: Fs15.4±1.8Wo0.6±0.3 (Fs13.4-18.3Wo0.2-1.0, FeO/MnO=21-26, n=6); olivine: Fa39.0±0.1 (Fa38.9-39.2, FeO/MnO=44±2, n=7); magnesian olivine: Fa15.2±0.2, (Fa14.8-15.5, FeO/MnO=43±3, n=7); plagioclase: An91.9±0.5 (An91.2-92.7, n=7)
