Northwest Africa 14877 (NWA 14877) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Sep Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in September 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed chondrules containing devitrified glass occur in a relatively coarse-grained matrix containing kamacite, troilite, chromite and merrillite. Plagioclase is absent from the matrix. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa17.6±0.2, range Fa17.3-17.8, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs15.9±0.7Wo1.3±0.2, range Fs15.4-17.2Wo1.1-1.5, N = 6), augite (Fs8.1±3.6Wo45.1±0.2, range Fs5.6-10.7Wo44.9-45.2, N = 2). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4). Specimens: 23.9 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
